The River Bourne Edge Alternative Education - Different by Design
Engage • Discover • Grow • Empower
The River Bourne Edge is a restorative and relational alternative education provision for children and young people aged 6–19.
Based within the unique environment of River Bourne Community Farm in Salisbury, we provide personalised education for children and young people who need something different from mainstream education.
We combine academic learning, recognised qualifications, practical education, personal development and restorative support to help young people reconnect with learning and recognise what they are capable of achieving.
Every learner is different. Their education pathway should be too.
Different Programmes, One ethos
YOUNG EXPLORERS Ages 6-11
A nurturing primary programme built around animals, nature, creativity, practical learning and relationships. Helping children build confidence, communication, independence and a positive connection with learning.
PATHWAYS Ages 11+
Personalised secondary alternative education combining Maths and English, qualifications, practical learning, personal development and restorative support.
For some learners, it is a route back into education.
For others, it is a route towards qualifications, college and future opportunities.
NEXT STEPS Ages 16-18
A personalised post-16 programme focused on qualifications, independence, employability, life skills and preparation for adulthood.
Because post-16 education should prepare young people for more than the next course.
Farm Connect
A weekly farm experience for small groups of students from schools, combining animal care, nature, teamwork and personal development. Keystage 3 upwards can complete the Skills and Education Group qualification.
Young Explorers
A nurturing, practical programme using animals, nature, creativity and exploration to develop confidence, communication, relationships and engagement with learning.
Pathways
A personalised secondary programme combining academic education, recognised qualifications, practical learning and personal development.
Next Steps
A personalised programme focused on qualifications, independence, life skills, employability and preparation for adulthood.
Farm Connect
The Farm Connect Group offers students a unique opportunity to engage with agriculture. Within a tranquil environment, students can gain practical farming experience or pursue a qualification, all while working alongside animals.

More Than a Place to Learn
Our environment gives young people space to build relationships, discover strengths, take responsibility and experience success.
We believe that when young people feel understood, valued and safe enough to try, things can change.
